“Pumpkin pumpkin big and round
How I wonder where you’re found
In the soil your roots will dig
On a vine you grow so big
Pumpkin pumpkin big and round
How I wonder where you’re found..”
Back on a beautiful blue sky day in September, the children were given the task of working together to choose one perfect pumpkin for our classroom from the fields at Windy Hill Orchard. This beautiful pumpkin adorned our science table, was the throne for our “Pumpkin King” game and alas, it has become a jack-o-lantern.
Our before school artists designed and drew the face and scooped out the innards. The final masterpiece will smile upon our classroom for a few more days and then be removed to the back hillside where it will become a possible winter home for a wee creature as in the story “Mousekin’s Golden House.”
