Dinosaurs at DCP!

011Have you ever wondered what if felt like to be a dinosaur?  For the past three weeks, we have been exploring their fascinating world.  In our science area, we have real fossils to examine.  Our sand table has been crawling with dinosaurs.  We have had “paleontologists” extracting dinosaur bones from plaster with small hammers and brushes.  Did you know that the meat eating dinosaurs had large, sharp teeth?  The plant eaters had small teeth and actually needed to eat stones to help their digestion much like birds today.  We have read some great dinosaur stories and have even dressed like dinosaurs.  The children got to feel what it would be like to have really big feet like a dinosaur (thanks to some local shoe stores who donated boxes that we transformed into dino feet)!

Whoa!

Whoa!

Scientists believe that there were many changes occurring with the earth way back then which led us to a discussion about earthquakes and volcanoes.  We simulated a volcano in our sand table so successfully that it hit the ceiling!  The excitement was immeasurable.  Like all good scientists, we had to repeat the experiment several times.  What fun!
